Pro is mostly about volume, not features
All three Pro tiers share the same core features: the Pro reasoning model, Codex, maximum deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. What changes between them is how much usage is included, and Pro 500 adds the Ultrafast speed mode.
That means the most useful way to compare them is by cost per unit of usage, taking Plus as one unit:
| Plan | Price | Usage vs Plus | Cost per "Plus unit" |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $20 | 1x | $20 |
| Pro 100 | $100 | about 5x | about $20 |
| Pro 200 (until Oct 30) | $200 | 20x | $10 |
| Pro 200 (from Oct 30) | $200 | 10x | $20 |
| Pro 500 | $500 | about 25x | about $20 |
Usage figures are approximate and refer to Codex and ChatGPT Work usage. Check the official pages before you subscribe.
After October 30, every tier costs roughly the same per unit of usage. There's no bulk discount any more. You're simply buying more capacity, so the right tier is the smallest one you don't run out of.
What changes on October 30
Pro 200's included Codex and ChatGPT Work usage drops from 20x to 10x Plus, and the GPT-6 Pro limit in chat drops from 200 to 100 messages per week. The price stays at $200. If you subscribed to Pro 200 for its old allowance, compare it again with Pro 100 and Pro 500 before your next renewal.
Watch the speed modes
Faster isn't free. Fast mode uses your allowance about 2.5 times as quickly, and Ultrafast (Pro 500 only) about 8 times as quickly. If you run Ultrafast all day, Pro 500's large allowance shrinks fast. Use it for the moments where waiting actually costs you something.
Which tier should you choose?
- Plus ($20): you rarely see a usage-limit message. This is most people.
- Pro 100 ($100): you hit Plus limits several times a week, or you want the Pro reasoning model and your first Dot.
- Pro 200 ($200): you still run out on Pro 100. After October 30 it's simply "twice Pro 100".
- Pro 500 ($500): Codex or agents run for most of your working day, or speed is worth real money to you.
A tip before upgrading
Check when you actually hit limits. If it's only during a few heavy days a month, staying on Plus and spreading big jobs across the day is far cheaper than paying five times as much every month.
